These are all works I've made with other artists. Part of what I like about collaborating is that it introduces so many new variables. Working alone in the studio is great but it tends to be a very tightly focused, self-reflective experience. Sometimes working with another person is a nice way to expand my thought process. Making art involves constant decision making. Each choice is a response to the current state of the work which has been arrived at through a string of previous decisions. It's a bit like maintaining a dialogue. Another artist makes different decisions and responds differently than I would. This forces my perspective to shift in interesting ways, and in the best instances I come away feeling as if I've broadened my artistic vocabulary.
